Major General TNI Dr. Agustinus Purboyo: Generation Z Must Be Character-Driven and Competitive

The rapid advancement of information and communication technology has erased geographical boundaries, creating an increasingly competitive global environment. Young people, particularly Generation Z, must develop strong character and competitiveness by leveraging their strengths to thrive on the global stage.

This message was delivered by Pa Sahli Tk. III Kasad for Intelligence, Security, and Cyber Affairs, Major General of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (Mayjen TNI) Dr. Agustinus Purboyo, S.I.P., M.Tr.(Han). during a national seminar session at Untar’s 2024 Orientation Program for New Students (PKKMB) on Friday (16/8/2024) at Untar Campus I.

In his presentation titled “The Importance of Generation Z Character in Building an Excellent Indonesia,” Mayjen TNI Agustinus Purboyo, who is also an alumnus of Untar’s Doctoral Program in Management Science (Prodi DIM), emphasized that globalization has created a borderless world, intensifying competition at the international level.

According to him, Indonesian youth need to build strong character and cultivate a deep sense of patriotism in order to compete globally.

“Generation Z must be able to adapt quickly while firmly upholding national values. You are the nation’s future generation who must think out of the box and have the courage to step out of your comfort zones,” he said.

Mayjen TNI Agustinus Purboyo also highlighted challenges arising from globalization, particularly in terms of social interaction and dependence on technology.

“Globalization has made society more inclusive. However, on the other hand, Generation Z tends to engage less in direct social interactions due to their focus on gadgets. This is something that must be addressed so that it does not hinder the tremendous potential within each of you,” he added.

Furthermore, Mayjen TNI Agustinus Purboyo underscored the importance of possessing strong character and taking pride in being Indonesian. He stated that a sense of pride serves as the first step toward competing at the global level.

“Leave your comfort zones, become future leaders who embrace diversity, and be strong and principled. I hope that young people studying at Untar will become lions capable of making Indonesia a lion that commands respect on the global stage,” he remarked.

“We hope students will undergo their educational journey at Untar while upholding the values of IPE, enabling them to become well-rounded and high-quality individuals. Stay away from the five major educational sins: bullying, intolerance, drug abuse, corruption, and sexual violence. Uphold the good name of your alma mater in every step you take,” he said.

Untar’s 2024 PKKMB program was held over three days starting Wednesday (14/8/2024), followed by the 79th Indonesian Independence Day Commemoration Ceremony on Saturday (17/8/2024) at Untar Campus II.

The Rector emphasized that the independence commemoration ceremony served as an important moment for new students to reflect on their love and pride for the nation.

“As the nation’s future generation, you must be proud to be Indonesian. Be proud of our diversity, proud of our identity, and proud to continue safeguarding and building a better Indonesia,” he concluded.

Carrying the theme “Untar for Indonesia and the World: Sustainable Innovation – Igniting Curiosity to Drive Creativity,” the PKKMB program was attended by 3,000 new undergraduate students from eight faculties at Untar.

In addition to Mayjen TNI Agustinus Purboyo, the event also featured Commander of the Joint Regional Defense Command (Pangkogabwilhan) III TNI Lieutenant General (Letjen) TNI Richard Taruli Horja Tampubolon, S.H., M.M., and Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Dr. (H.C.) dr. Hasto Wardoyo, Sp.OG(K). as speakers who provided guidance and insights to Untar’s new students. (KJ/YS/PA/KJ)
