Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) hosted the 2026 Librarian Professional Certification Program organized by the Indonesian Higher Education Libraries Forum (FPPTI) DKI Jakarta at Building M, Untar Campus I, Jakarta, from 15–16 September 2026.
The program was part of efforts to improve librarians’ competencies amid technological developments and increasingly open access to information. These changes require librarians to continuously enhance their skills and adapt to evolving information service needs.
Head of FPPTI DKI Jakarta Dr. (C) Irma Irawati Ibrahim, S.Sos., M.Kom. said certification provides librarians with a means to assess and improve their professional competencies. “Hopefully, through this program, we can develop a generation of Indonesian librarians who are increasingly professional, prosperous, and sustainable,” she said.
The role of librarians in higher education is no longer limited to managing collections. They also help the academic community access information, find scholarly references, and support learning and research activities.
Rector of Untar Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M. said technological developments have also changed the needs and competencies of librarians. “Professional certification is an important stage in developing librarians’ competencies. Amid digital transformation, librarians not only manage collections but also play a strategic role in supporting the development of higher education institutions. Therefore, their competencies need to be recognized in a measurable manner and in accordance with established standards,” he said.
The certification was conducted in collaboration with the Professional Certification Institute for Librarians of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia. The assessor team consisted of Dhama Gustlar Baskoro, Indah Ekaputri, Leni Sudiarti Nelwaty, Niswa Nabila Sri Bintang Alam, Noorika Retno Widuri Novatriyanti, Novi Murdiyanti, Opong Sumiati, Titiek Kismiyanti, and Vilianty Rizki Utami.
