Amid busy class schedules, assignments, and various activities, finding time to exercise can sometimes be challenging. With so much going on, physical activity is often pushed aside, even though the body still needs time to stay active.
National Sports Day (Haornas), commemorated every September 9, reminds us of the importance of exercise in everyday life. Exercise is not only about competition and achievement, but also about building habits that support physical and mental health.
Regular physical activity provides various benefits for the body. In addition to helping maintain fitness and endurance, exercise can strengthen bones and joints and help the body stay in good condition amid daily activities.
For students, exercise can also provide a break from academic routines. Spending time on a sports field, at a fitness center, or simply engaging in light physical activity can be an opportunity to unwind while interacting with friends.
The campus environment can also help support these habits. At Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), for example, students can make use of various sports facilities and participate in different Student Activity Units (UKM), including basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, futsal, and martial arts.
However, exercise does not always have to involve organized activities or specialized facilities. Walking, running, cycling, or stretching between busy schedules can also be simple ways to stay active.
Haornas serves as a reminder that sports are not only for athletes or those pursuing competitive achievements. Amid busy academic schedules and daily activities, making time to stay active is part of maintaining a healthy balance in life. (CJ/YS)
