Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) hosted the opening ceremony of the 2026 Jakarta Regional Student Arts Week (PEKSIMIDA DKI Jakarta 2026) at Untar Campus I, Jakarta, on Thursday (16/7/2026). The event serves as the regional selection for outstanding student artists who will represent Jakarta at the 18th National Student Arts Week (Peksiminas XVIII), to be held at the University of Jember, East Java, from 8–12 September 2026.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from 24 higher education institutions that are members of the Jakarta Chapter of the Indonesian Student Arts Development Board (BPSMI DKI Jakarta). A total of 345 students are competing in 15 artistic categories covering vocal arts, performing arts, literature, and visual arts. The competitions will be held in stages across several participating universities.

Untar Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Partnerships, Assoc. Prof. Sri Tiatri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Psikolog, emphasized the important role of the arts in shaping students’ character. According to her, the arts are not only a medium for self-expression but also a means of cultivating sensitivity, critical thinking, and creativity that contribute to a harmonious society. She added that Untar is proud to have been entrusted as one of the host institutions for PEKSIMIDA DKI Jakarta 2026.
Chair of BPSMI DKI Jakarta, Dr. Dadan Erwandi, S.Psi., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for Untar’s readiness to host the opening ceremony. He noted that the support of higher education institutions plays a vital role in ensuring the successful implementation of the event.
Head of Untar’s Student Affairs and Alumni Office, Tri Sutrisno, S.Si., M.Sc., stated that PEKSIMIDA is more than just a competition. It also provides students with opportunities to develop their creativity, expand their professional networks, and deepen their appreciation for arts and culture.

Representing the participants, Brandon Holy, a 2023 student from Untar’s Faculty of Psychology, expressed his pride in representing the University at the regional competition. He hopes to achieve the best possible result and earn a place at Peksiminas.
The opening of PEKSIMIDA DKI Jakarta 2026 was officially marked by the striking of a ceremonial gong by Untar Vice Rector Sri Tiatri, accompanied by BPSMI DKI Jakarta Chair Dadan Erwandi and Head of Untar’s Student Affairs and Alumni Office Tri Sutrisno. The event is expected to produce the finest student artists who will represent Jakarta at the 18th National Student Arts Week (Peksiminas XVIII) at the University of Jember. (VC/YS)
