In commemoration of the 106th anniversary of RS Soeharto Heerdjan, the Faculty of Psychology of Universitas Tarumanagara collaborated to hold a seminar titled “Why We Stay?” discussing the phenomenon of toxic relationships and the reasons individuals often find it difficult to leave unhealthy relationships. The seminar was held on Tuesday (28/04/2026) at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Engineering, 6th Floor, L Building, Untar Campus I.
Raising a topic that has become widely discussed and highly relevant to today’s younger generation, the seminar served as an educational platform to explore the dynamics of toxic relationships from psychological and mental health perspectives. Participants were invited to understand how emotional factors, trauma, fear of loss, and psychological manipulation can cause individuals to remain in painful relationships.
The seminar featured several speakers from the fields of psychology and mental health, namely Ayu Noviyanti, Handry Carlos, Debora Basaria, and Labbaika Fadhillah. The speakers discussed various forms of toxic relationships, their impact on mental health, and the importance of building healthy and supportive relationships.
Participants showed strong enthusiasm throughout the seminar, particularly during the interactive discussion sessions that explored experiences and toxic relationship phenomena commonly found in surrounding environments and on social media. The topic was considered closely related to the lives of university students and young people, making the seminar not only an academic forum but also a space for reflection and raising awareness about the importance of mental health.
Through this collaboration, the Faculty of Psychology Untar and RS Soeharto Heerdjan hope that the “Why We Stay?” seminar can increase public understanding of toxic relationships while encouraging individuals to build healthier, safer, and more supportive relationships. (KS/YS)
