Giordio Alexander officially earned his doctoral degree during the Open Examination of the Doctor of Law Program (Prodi DIH) at the Faculty of Law (FH) of Untar, held on Thursday (11/7/2024) at the Auditorium of Untar Campus I.

His dissertation, titled “Legal Issues in the Implementation of Social Responsibility by Multinational Companies from a Human Rights Perspective in Indonesia,” examines and analyzes the enforcement of corporate social responsibility (CSR) regulations by multinational companies (MNCs) from a human rights perspective in Indonesia.

According to Giordio, corporate activities in Indonesia can have negative impacts on employees, local communities, and the environment. These impacts affect the quality of life of people living around company operations and may be categorized as direct minor human rights violations, or in some cases, even serious violations.

“I was interested in researching the legal certainty of corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices among MNCs and foreign direct investment (FDI) companies in Indonesia through specific case studies to identify solutions and best practices. The goal is to improve the quality of human rights protection for employees of MNC and FDI companies, as well as for communities surrounding their operations,” Giordio explained.

Chief Promoter Prof. Dr. Mella Ismelina F. Rahayu, S.H., M.Hum. stated that earning a doctoral degree marks the beginning of greater academic responsibility. “Continue to create and innovate while upholding the values of Integrity, Professionalism, and Entrepreneurship (IPE),” she said.

Graduating with a GPA of 3.89, Giordio Alexander became the 36th graduate of the Doctor of Law Program at FH Untar. (MS/KJ/YS/KJ)
