The Interior Design Study Program (DI Study Program) of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) Untar in collaboration with IKEA held the 19th IDETALK (Interior Design Talk) talk show, Thursday (5/10) at Building K Campus 1 Untar.

Themed “Plan a Better Kitchen with IKEA Indonesia”, the talk show explained the topic of kitchen and residential design to the 2022 batch of DI FSRD Untar students.

Head of the Interior Design Undergraduate Study Program Maitri Widya Mutiara, S.Ds., M.M. said IDETALK aims to introduce the world of international industry to students, especially in the interior and furniture sector.

“The hope is that students will be able to develop themselves and prepare themselves to enter the world of work, and be able to think globally in creating competitive creative designs,” continued Maitri.

As the first speaker, Alumni of DI Study Program FSRD Untar class of 2011 Imelda Golda Hadi who is now the Interior Design Leader of IKEA Indonesia.

Her presentation entitled “Creating a Better Everyday Life through IKEA Democratic Design” explained the five basics of a product design used in IKEA, including function, form, quality, sustainability, and low price.

Imelda said that the five fundamentals emerged from the company’s vision, which is then implemented in all IKEA product designs, as an effort to make products that benefit the lives of its consumers.

According to her, sustainability is the biggest factor to build a better life for its users. However, this is often forgotten in the design process.

“Hopefully this talk show can inspire designers to produce innovative products that can improve the lives of their consumers,” Imelda concluded.

Interior Design Manager of IKEA Indonesia Dimas Haryo Wirawan, who was the second speaker, explained about “Kitchen Planning”. Dimas discussed the steps that must be applied in creating a kitchen, including identifying activities, defining consumer needs, and creating solutions.

He explained that all three phases are needed to design a kitchen that can increase the productivity of its customers’ daily lives. Dimas advised that a designer must be able to imagine himself as a consumer or user of the room to be designed in order to accommodate different consumer activities.

The event was attended by hundreds of Untar students and lecturers. (VW/AW)
