The Indonesian Air Force Service Day (Hari Bhakti Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Udara/TNI AU) is commemorated annually on 29 July to honor the dedication and sacrifices of the pioneers of the Indonesian Air Force in defending the nation’s independence.

The commemoration traces its origins to the First Dutch Military Aggression on 21 July 1947, which violated the Linggarjati Agreement. Despite limited resources, the Indonesian Air Force continued to carry out various missions, including humanitarian operations to deliver aid to the Indonesian people. During one such mission, Air Commodore Adisutjipto, Air Commodore Prof. Dr. Abdulrachman Saleh, and Air Officer Adisumarmo lost their lives after their aircraft was shot down by Dutch forces. Their sacrifice became the foundation for the establishment of Indonesian Air Force Service Day.

The values of dedication, courage, and patriotism exemplified by these Air Force pioneers remain highly relevant today. These principles are reflected not only in efforts to safeguard national sovereignty but also in the contributions of various sectors of society, including higher education institutions, in advancing education and improving public welfare.
