Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), in collaboration with the National Commission on Disability (Komisi Nasional Disabilitas/KND) and the Indonesian Parents Association of Children with Down Syndrome (Persatuan Orang Tua Anak dengan Down Syndrome Indonesia/Portadin), has strengthened its partnership to support the fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities through the use of assessment-based data. The commitment was marked by the handover of KND’s assessment results to the Central Executive Board of Portadin (DPP Portadin) at Untar Campus I, Jakarta, on Wednesday (15/7/2026).
Untar Rector Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M. presented the assessment results to Acting Secretary General of DPP Portadin, Nur Indah Harahap. The event followed a disability services assessment previously conducted by KND at Untar.
Prior to the main ceremony, representatives of KND and DPP Portadin were welcomed by Untar Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Partnerships, Assoc. Prof. Sri Tiatri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Psikolog. On the same occasion, KND presented certificates of appreciation to Yayasan Tarumanagara, Untar, and DPP Portadin in recognition of their collaboration in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities.
Through the assessment, KND mapped the needs of persons with disabilities while evaluating the support services and facilities currently available. The assessment findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing more inclusive services, both within higher education institutions and in the formulation of public policies.
Chair of KND, Dr. Dante Rigmalia, M.Pd., explained that disability assessments are intended not only to update data but also to identify the specific needs of each individual, enabling more appropriate service recommendations to be developed.
“The assessment results are expected to support local governments in formulating policies and programs that address the actual needs of persons with disabilities. Higher education institutions also play a vital role through the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly community service, by expanding access to assessment services and promoting the fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities,” she said.
She expressed hope that the good practices developed in collaboration with Untar would continue to evolve as a model of cooperation among universities, government institutions, and civil society organizations in fostering a more inclusive society.
Meanwhile, Chair of Yayasan Tarumanagara, Prof. Dr. Ariawan Gunadi, S.H., M.H., emphasized that cross-sector collaboration must continue to be strengthened in order to generate sustainable innovations and solutions that support the fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities.
The collaboration further reinforces Untar’s commitment to promoting an inclusive society. The use of assessment-based data is expected to provide a solid foundation for developing policies and delivering services that more effectively address the needs of persons with disabilities in Indonesia.
