A total of 28 new psychologists were inaugurated by the Faculty of Psychology of Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) during the Second Cohort Psychologist Inauguration Ceremony held at the Auditorium of the Main Building, Campus I of Untar, on Wednesday (20/5/2026). The graduates had completed their professional education and fulfilled all academic and competency requirements.
The ceremony was attended by Untar’s leadership, lecturers, the graduates’ families, and invited guests. The event marked the addition of new professionals in the field of psychology who are ready to provide services to society across various sectors.
Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at Untar, Dr. P. Tommy Y. S. Suyasa, M.Si., Psikolog, stated that the graduates had undergone an educational process that demanded not only mastery of knowledge but also the development of character and professionalism.
“This inauguration is not the end of the learning process but the beginning of a true professional journey. We hope that the psychologists inaugurated today will continue to develop their competencies, uphold their integrity, and provide services grounded in professional ethics,” he said.
According to Tommy, the psychology profession carries significant responsibility because it is directly related to the psychological well-being of individuals and groups. Therefore, every psychologist is required to continuously enhance their capabilities to respond to the evolving challenges faced by society.
He added that technological advancements, social changes, and increasing public awareness of mental health issues have created broader opportunities for psychologists to contribute through professional services, education, research, and community engagement.
The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation of Untar, in collaboration with HIMPSI, stated that the demand for professional psychological services continues to grow across various sectors, ranging from education, organizations, and communities to the healthcare sector.
“As psychologists, you are expected not only to possess strong knowledge and skills but also empathy, social sensitivity, and a commitment to serving others. Let this profession become a means of contributing to society and bringing about positive change,” he told the graduates.
According to him, the presence of these new psychologists is expected to strengthen efforts to improve public mental health and support the creation of healthier and more productive environments.
The inauguration of this second cohort of psychologists also reflects Untar’s commitment to producing graduates who excel academically, professionally, and ethically. Through education focused on quality and competency development, the Faculty of Psychology at Untar continues to prepare psychologists who can respond to societal needs and the evolving demands of the profession.
With the inauguration of these 28 new psychologists, Untar has now graduated two cohorts of psychologists since the Professional Psychology Education Program was established. The graduates are expected to take an active role in promoting the psychological well-being of society and strengthening the contribution of psychology across various aspects of life. (KS/YS)
