The Student Representative Council of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (DPM FSRD) Untar organized a study excursion titled “Mosaica: Making Stories Through Art and Culture” at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) from 8–10 May 2026. The program was part of the Research and Development Division’s annual agenda, aimed at broadening students’ perspectives through cultural exchange, academic experiences, and cross-border exploration of art and design.
The activity involved students from the Visual Communication Design and Interior Design programs who are members of DPM FSRD Untar. They were accompanied by three FSRD lecturers: Toto Mujio Mukmin, S.Sn., M.Hum., Dr. Siti Nurannisaa Parama Bekti, S.Sn., M.Pd., and Anastasia Cinthya Gani, S.Ds., M.Ars.
Chair of the Study Excursion Organizing Committee, Michelline Erenia Harefa, explained that the theme “Mosaica: Making Stories Through Art and Culture” was inspired by the concept of a mosaic, which consists of diverse pieces that come together to form a meaningful and beautiful whole.
“We chose this theme because we come from diverse backgrounds, ranging from culture and language to different life experiences. Through shared experiences and creative works, we believe those differences can be united into something meaningful and beautiful,” she said.
According to Michelline, diversity became a key value throughout the learning process during the excursion. Through cultural interactions and collaborative creative experiences, participants were encouraged to understand that differences can serve as a strength in building meaningful collaboration.
DPM FSRD Untar President Bernanto Aditya Kosasih also expressed his pride in the successful implementation of the program. “There were many challenges in making this program happen, starting with rising airfare prices and other obstacles. However, I believe all those efforts will be worthwhile because this experience allows us to expand our networks and gain valuable knowledge from both Untar and UiTM,” he said.
Bernanto expressed hope that the program would strengthen the relationship between Untar and UiTM while opening opportunities for broader collaboration in the fields of art, culture, and education. He also extended his appreciation to all members of DPM FSRD Untar and the UiTM community for their support in making the program possible.
Through the 2026 Study Excursion, DPM FSRD Untar hopes that students will gain cross-cultural experiences, broaden their creative perspectives, and build international networks that can support both their academic and professional development in the fields of art and design. (KS/YS)
