Amid increasingly dynamic global developments, design plays a strategic role in creating innovation. From products and visual communication to digital experiences, design helps simplify complexity and improve the quality of human interaction with the surrounding environment. Without good design, an idea or product may become difficult to understand or use optimally.
In this regard, World Design Day, commemorated every April 27, serves as an important momentum to reflect on the role of design in everyday life. Beyond visual aspects, design functions as a solution that connects functionality, aesthetics, and human needs across various fields.
The importance of design also lies in its ability to adapt. Changes in technology, trends, and societal behavior require designers to continuously evolve and think creatively. Design cannot remain static; it must adapt to changing times in order to stay relevant and respond to shifting needs.
In addition, design contributes to building identity, whether for individuals, institutions, or even nations. Strong and well-conceptualized visuals can communicate messages effectively while strengthening the image an entity wishes to project.
This perspective aligns with the opinion of 2023 FSRD Untar student Avrello Alsando, who stated, “Design is important because it makes messages easier to understand, more visually appealing, and capable of influencing how people think and respond to something.”
As an educational institution, Untar is also committed to developing potential in the field of design through the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD). FSRD Untar serves as a platform for students to sharpen their creativity, critical thinking abilities, and technical skills across various design disciplines. Graduates of FSRD are expected to become adaptive and innovative designers who are ready to compete in the ever-evolving creative industry. (VC/YS)
