Every March 18th, Indonesia celebrates National Architecture Day as a tribute to architects for their contributions in creating innovative and aesthetically valuable works. Architecture is not just about constructing physical structures; it also reflects a nation’s history, identity, as well as technological advancements and creativity.

The development of architecture in Indonesia has been evident since ancient times. From the grandeur of historic temples and traditional houses that reflect local wisdom to futuristic modern buildings, each structure carries its own philosophy and meaning. National Architecture Day serves as a moment of reflection to appreciate the role of architecture in daily life and its contribution to sustainable development in Indonesia.

Architectural Education as a Pillar of Progress

In the effort to preserve and develop architecture in Indonesia, education plays a crucial role in shaping a generation of competent and visionary architects. Through higher education institutions, architecture students are equipped with in-depth knowledge of history, philosophy, and design techniques relevant to both present and future needs. This ensures that the development of Indonesian architecture can continuously adapt to technological advancements and the increasingly complex demands of urban development.

As one of the universities committed to producing high-quality architects, Untar, through the Bachelor of Architecture Program at the Faculty of Engineering, strives to graduate students who are ready to contribute to Indonesia’s development. The curriculum combines theory and practice, providing students with a deep understanding of architectural concepts, design innovation, and the application of the latest technologies in the field of architecture.

Students are also encouraged to create works that not only possess high aesthetic value but are also sustainable and have a positive impact on the environment and the wider community.

Untar’s Commitment to Preparing Globally Competitive Architects

One of Untar’s Architecture Program students from the class of 2023, Den Khennet Nelson, expressed his hope to contribute more to the Indonesian architectural industry, particularly in the aspect of environmental sustainability.

“In developed areas like Jakarta, many developers construct skyscrapers without considering environmental balance. This has led to rising urban temperatures,” he stated.

To strengthen the knowledge and competencies of its graduates, Untar also offers the Professional Architecture Program (PPAr). This program is designed to equip future architects with a deeper understanding of professional practices in the architectural industry. With this initiative, Untar graduates are not only prepared for careers at the national level but also possess the competitiveness to excel on a global scale.

Happy National Architecture Day 2025!

May Indonesian architecture continue to evolve and make a meaningful contribution to society and the world.
