Every year on April 9, the Indonesian people commemorate the Anniversary of the Indonesian National Army Air Force (TNI AU) with pride and patriotism.
The history of the birth of the Air Force began with the formation of the People’s Security Agency (BKR) on August 23, 1945, as an initial step to strengthen the Air Fleet which at that time experienced a shortage of aircraft and other facilities.
In its journey, BKR turned into the People’s Security Army (TKR) Aviation Service on October 5, 1945, under the leadership of Air Commodore Soerjadi Soerjadarma.
On January 23, 1946, TKR Jawatan Penerbangan again transformed into Tentara Republik Indonesia (TRI) Jawatan Penerbangan as part of the development of the Air Force.
Then, on April 9, 1946, TRI Jawatan Penerbangan was officially upgraded to the Republic of Indonesia Air Force or commonly known as AURI. This upgrade made it equal to the Army and Navy. Until this year, the Air Force has been defending the country’s sovereignty and maintaining peace in the airspace for 78 years.

The long history of the Air Force has proven its important role in maintaining the integrity of the country as well as making major contributions in various humanitarian activities, disaster relief, and national development.

The Air Force Anniversary is not only a moment of celebration, but also a moment to reflect on achievements, appreciate sacrifices, and strengthen the determination to maintain Indonesia’s air sovereignty.
With the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, TNI AU soldiers from various ethnic backgrounds, tribes, and religions unite to maintain the country’s sovereignty.
With the theme “A Respected Air Force in the Alert Region Always Securing National Airspace Sovereignty for Advanced Indonesia”, the 78th anniversary of the Air Force is a momentum to commemorate the services of air heroes who have died for the sake of the nation’s independence and air sovereignty.
Let us support the Indonesian Air Force in carrying out its duties to protect Indonesian airspace from various threats, so that Indonesia remains a safe, peaceful and prosperous country.
