Director of Traffic Police Metro Jaya Regional Police admits to an increase in traffic offense after manual traffic ticketing replaced with Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE). Currently, the offense commonly found is the removal or forgery of vehicle plate number to avoid detection by ETLE cameras. Furthermore, motorists are becoming more reckless after the removal of manual traffic ticketing.
Transportation Expert and Observer from Untar Prof. Ir. Leksmono Surya Putranto, M.Sc., Ph.D. recommends the usage of face recognition to strengthen ETLE. “The most important thing is not the plate number, but the driver, as plate number can be replaced and used by someone else,” he explained as a speaker in 92.4 PasFM Radio on Friday (16/12).
According to Prof. Leksmono, if more traffic offense occurred after the implementation of ETLE, the detection system must be evaluated. “Aside of that, 3E (education, engineering, enforcement) must be implemented in organizing traffic. Police officers to educate the society, and traffic officers to be responsible in the engineering,” explained Prof. Leksmono.
