Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), through its Education and Training Center (Pusdiklat), held an online training session titled “AI Literacy Program AI Ready ASEAN” on Tuesday (01/09/2026). The program aimed to enhance the academic community’s understanding and skills in using artificial intelligence (AI) effectively and responsibly.
The training was organized through a collaboration between Untar, Ruangguru, the ASEAN Foundation, AI Ready ASEAN, and Google.org.
Head of Pusdiklat Untar Dr. dr. Arlends Chris, M.Si. said AI is developing rapidly and becoming increasingly integrated into everyday life. Therefore, the academic community needs to understand both the capabilities and limitations of AI and use it ethically and responsibly, particularly in education.
The training materials were delivered by AI practitioner, Software Engineer, and Learning Facilitator at Ruangguru Muhammad Agung Hambali. He explained the use of AI in academic settings, including helping generate initial ideas, manage data and documents, process visual media, and improve writing structure.
According to Agung, AI can also help students and lecturers understand complex concepts through alternative explanations, summarize information, compare academic sources, and test their understanding.
During the training, participants were also introduced to the concept of machine learning, which is widely used in everyday life. The technology is applied in YouTube and Spotify recommendation systems, price and weather predictions, fraud detection, and the ranking of search results on Google.
Participants then practiced using NotebookLM, an AI-powered application developed by Google that can support research and learning. Users can upload specific sources to be summarized, analyzed, or used as a basis for answering questions.
For the academic community, the application can be used to summarize papers and audiovisual materials, compare multiple sources, and help explore information based on references provided by the user. (CJ/YS)
