The Faculty of Communication at Tarumanagara University (Fikom Untar) held its Practitioner Week as part of a strategic initiative to prepare students for the evolving dynamics of the communication industry in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The event took place virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (WIB), and was attended by all 2022 cohort students currently enrolled in the Internship course in their sixth semester.

Carrying the theme “Collaboration Between Higher Education in Communication Studies and Industry Partners in the Era of Artificial Intelligence“, Fikom Untar’s Practitioner Week aimed to bridge academic theory with the rapidly evolving practices of the communication industry. The event was attended by key faculty members, including the Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Dr. Riris Loisa, M.Si., Head of the Undergraduate Communication Studies Program, Dr. Sinta Paramita, S.I.P., M.A., Secretary of the Program, Dr. Wulan Purnama Sari, S.I.Kom., M.Si., along with other Fikom Untar lecturers.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Riris Loisa emphasized the importance of synergy between academia and the communication industry in responding to technological transformation. “Through Practitioner Week, the Faculty of Communication at Untar reaffirms its commitment to preparing students for both the challenges and opportunities presented by the rise of Artificial Intelligence in the communication sector. Collaboration between higher education and industry professionals is a strategic step in bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world practice,” said Dr. Riris.

The event featured Herik Kurniawan, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., Chairman of the Indonesian Television Journalists Association (IJTI), as the keynote speaker. In his presentation titled “Positive Journalism in the Era of Multiple Disruptions,” Herik highlighted the importance of maintaining integrity and accuracy in journalistic practices amidst the rapid and often unverified flow of information.

“If you here intend to become journalists, you must carry out your duties in accordance with established procedures. A journalist should not only prioritize speed, but accuracy also plays a crucial role, as we serve as providers of information that will be consumed by the public,” emphasized Herik.

Closing the discussion session, Herik motivated the students to continually develop their skills and not be afraid of facing competition in the workforce. “Don’t worry about running out of opportunities! Everyone has their own chance. Improve your competencies and don’t be afraid to try. Every person has the same potential to be special”, he concluded.

Through events like Practitioner Week, Fikom Untar continues to demonstrate its commitment to producing graduates who are adaptive, professional, and ready to face the challenges of the digital era. (VA/YS/AJ/VA)
