Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) dispatched a medical team to carry out a humanitarian mission for victims of flooding in Sumatra. The volunteer team was officially released by Untar Rector Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., at the Untar Campus in Jakarta on Monday (15/12/2025).
The team, consisting of members from the Faculty of Medicine (FK Untar), will be assigned to disaster-affected areas, particularly Agam Regency and its surroundings in West Sumatra. This assignment is part of the institution’s response to the national disaster situation, as well as a follow-up to directives from the Directorate General of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek).
In his remarks, Amad Sudiro expressed appreciation for FK Untar’s readiness to carry out the humanitarian mission. He hoped that the presence of the Untar medical team would provide tangible contributions to affected communities. “This is in line with the directive from Kemendiktisaintek for universities to be present and provide positive impact to society in emergencies,” he said.
Head of the Medical Team, FK Untar lecturer Dr. dr. Shirly Gunawan, Sp.FK., stated that FK Untar is ready to support humanitarian programs coordinated by Kemendiktisaintek. According to her, the deployed team consists of 10 volunteers, including three lecturers as well as young doctors who are alumni and clinical clerkship participants of FK Untar.
“The team is scheduled to depart on Tuesday (16/12/2025) morning and will carry out medical services for several days according to the planned agenda,” she said.
In addition to providing healthcare services, the Untar medical team also brought medical and non-medical logistical support tailored to field needs. The program areas include several regions in West Sumatra, including Agam Regency and Lubuk Basung City, which are still under monitoring due to the impact of the disaster.
The send-off ceremony was symbolically marked by the Rector of Untar placing a volunteer vest on the Head of the Medical Team, followed by all team members. The event was also attended by Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Untar Dr. dr. Noer Saelan Tadjudin, Sp.KJ., as well as leaders of offices and institutions within Untar.
This medical team deployment program is expected to provide direct benefits to affected communities, in line with humanitarian values, inclusivity principles, and the commitment of higher education institutions in supporting sustainable development. (VC/YS)
