Untar students have once again achieved a remarkable accomplishment. A team from the Interior Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) Untar, secured first place in the Best Student Design category at the ASMINDO Furniture Design Competition (AFDC) 2025, part of the Indonesia Furniture & Design Expo (IFFINA) 2025 held at ICE BSD. The winners were announced on Saturday (20/09/2025).
The prestigious competition was organized by the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (ASMINDO) under the theme “Bound By Culture, Shaped by Materials.” AFDC 2025 featured two categories—Student Designer and Young Designer—with the aim of encouraging young designers to create furniture designs that celebrate cultural heritage while utilizing local materials.
The FSRD Untar team, consisting of Evelyn Clarence, Sharlen Oletha, and Yuliana Edalene, impressed the panel of judges with their work titled “Yugami Chair.” The design showcased a creative exploration of form while representing cultural values through a piece of furniture that is both functional and aesthetically appealing.
Evelyn Clarence, one of the team members, expressed her gratitude and pride regarding the achievement.
“My team and I are truly happy, proud, and grateful after going through a long process filled with dedication during the chair’s development. It feels rewarding to see our hard work pay off, while also gaining new confidence and motivation to continue growing,” she said.
Evelyn also shared an inspiring message for her fellow Interior Design students at Untar.
“Do not be afraid or hesitant to participate in competitions. Focus on the process, give your best effort, and do not fear failure because every attempt is a step toward success and personal growth. Keep creating and never stop dreaming!”
This achievement adds to the growing list of accomplishments by Untar students at both national and international levels. It also reflects the quality of education at FSRD Untar, which not only emphasizes academic excellence but also encourages students to innovate, think creatively, and make meaningful contributions to Indonesia’s creative industry.
