National Radio Day, commemorated every September 11, serves as a moment to remember the historic occasion when Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) first went on air in 1945. At the time, radio played a vital role in voicing the spirit of independence, connecting communities, and fostering national unity.
Today, 80 years after Indonesia’s independence, radio remains relevant as a medium for communication, entertainment, and education. This spirit continues to be upheld by Untar students through the Untar Radio Student Activity Unit (UKM Radio Untar).
As a platform for students interested in broadcasting, UKM Radio Untar not only delivers internal campus broadcasting programs but also equips its members with communication skills, audio content production techniques, and broadcasting management expertise. Through various creative programs, students are trained to become skilled communicators who can adapt to the rapid development of digital technology.
Chairperson of UKM Radio Untar, Putra Akmal Dzaki, commonly known as Akmal, emphasized the special significance of National Radio Day.
“National Radio Day is not only an opportunity to remember the history of radio in Indonesia, but also a reminder that radio remains relevant in today’s digital era. Radio continues to adapt to young audiences through fresh, interactive content that is closely connected to everyday life. For UKM Radio Untar, National Radio Day serves as renewed motivation to keep growing. We are committed to delivering the latest news, reliable information, and engaging entertainment for our listeners,” said Akmal, a student of the Urban and Regional Planning Study Program.
In addition, UKM Radio Untar has achieved several notable accomplishments. In 2024, the organization won First Place in the Broadcasting and Podcast Competition (KNALPOD) Fourtyfive 2024 organized by the Radio of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ), as well as Second Place at Radio Mercu Buana (RMB) FEST 2024. These achievements reflect the consistency and creativity of Untar students in the field of broadcasting.
Akmal also shared his aspirations for the future. “I hope UKM Radio Untar can continue to serve as a creative space for students, not merely as a broadcasting platform but also as a place where fresh ideas relevant to today’s generation are born. For Indonesia’s broadcasting industry, I hope radio media will continue to innovate and remain a medium capable of keeping pace with the times without being forgotten in the future evolution of media,” he said.
Through the spirit of National Radio Day 2025, UKM Radio Untar seeks to demonstrate that radio is not merely a conventional medium, but a creative platform that can continuously adapt to the digital era.
