Untar Faculty of Medicine Hosts Expert from China, Explores Innovations in Nature-Based Traditional Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Untar held a Guest Lecture on the theme of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Thursday (31/07/2025) at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine Building, Campus I. The event featured two experts from Hunan University of Chinese Medicine: Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Wei Wang and Deputy Director of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation Prof. Dr. Xiong Cai, Ph.D.

Both shared the latest insights on research and the use of traditional medicines derived from natural ingredients, which are becoming increasingly relevant in the development of global medical and pharmaceutical sciences.

The guest lecture was also attended by Untar Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Sri Tiatri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Psychologist; Member of the Tarumanagara Foundation Board, Dr. Hendra Wiyanto, S.E., M.E.; Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Untar, Dr. dr. Noer Saelan Tadjudin, Sp.KJ.; as well as lecturers, students, academic staff, and alumni of the Faculty of Medicine Untar.

In her remarks, the Untar Vice Rector appreciated this guest lecture initiative as a concrete form of international collaboration that broadens horizons.

“China is indeed more advanced in the field of traditional medicine. I believe activities like this can enrich our knowledge and provide broad benefits for society,” she said.

The session was interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and asking questions. Prof. Wang presented his research titled “Natural Products Research of Hunan Chinese Medicine and Ethnomedicine”, which explored the potential of natural ingredients in traditional medical practices.

Meanwhile, Prof. Cai delivered a presentation titled “HSPA8, The Emerging Drug Target for Natural Compounds in the Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis”, highlighting the use of natural compounds as therapeutic candidates for autoimmune diseases.

“Indonesia has an extraordinary wealth of natural resources. The potential to discover new medicinal compounds is immense. Do not be easily satisfied with existing research—stay hungry for knowledge,” he advised the participants.

This event reaffirmed the commitment of the Faculty of Medicine Untar to fostering international collaboration and supporting the advancement of medical science that integrates traditional wisdom with scientific innovation for the improvement of public health.
