Various habits that are becoming increasingly common among young people—ranging from sports such as padel, tennis, yoga, and pilates—reflect a shift in lifestyle, particularly among Generation Z. Changes can also be seen in dietary choices, especially for breakfast, which has gradually moved away from instant foods toward simpler and minimally processed meals such as steamed dishes. Drinks like matcha and coffee, along with the habit of carrying tumblers, have also become part of everyday life, reflecting a growing awareness of healthy living.
According to dr. Olivia Charissa, M. Gizi, Sp. GK., a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Tarumanagara, these simple steps already form a strong foundation for a healthier lifestyle. “Maintaining a healthy diet does not have to be complicated. Consistently choosing more natural and balanced foods can create significant long-term health benefits,” she said.
This transformation indicates that Generation Z no longer views health solely in terms of physical appearance. Exercise is now seen as a way to maintain energy, focus, and quality of life amid increasingly busy routines. Eating habits have also become an essential part of that effort.
“Adequate and balanced nutritional intake plays a major role in maintaining stamina and concentration, especially for young people with high levels of activity,” explained dr. Olivia.
This lifestyle shift also includes greater awareness of mental health. Generation Z has become more open to recognizing personal limits, managing stress, and reducing habits that trigger overthinking. Simple practices such as journaling, making time for hobbies, and engaging in digital detoxes are increasingly adopted to create balance in daily life.
In this regard, maintaining healthy eating habits is also considered influential for emotional well-being. “A regular eating pattern helps maintain stable energy levels and emotional balance,” she added.
Looking ahead, this healthy lifestyle trend is expected to evolve beyond a temporary phenomenon and become part of Generation Z’s identity. A focus on balance between physical activity, mental health, and healthy eating habits is seen as the key to sustaining this transformation.
By making health the foundation of life, Generation Z has a significant opportunity to build a future that is not only productive, but also more balanced and meaningful. (VC/YS)
