M. Fankar Umran officially earned a Doctorate in Management Science (DIM) after successfully defending his dissertation entitled “Factors Influencing the Intention to Use Insurance Technology (Insurtech) Among Generation Z in Indonesia Using the Extended D-M Model” during an Open Doctoral Promotion Examination held at the Auditorium of M Building, Untar Campus I, on Monday (27/10/2025).

The examination was chaired by Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., with Prof. Dr. Haris Maupa, S.E., M.Si. serving as Main Promoter, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., A.E., and Andi Muhammad Sadat, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D. as Co-Promoters.

Fankar’s research focused on the factors influencing Generation Z’s intention to use insurance technology (Insurtech) in Indonesia. Using the Extended DeLone & McLean Model (2003), the study incorporated two additional variables: perceived trust and regulatory expectations. Data were collected through an online survey involving 431 Generation Z respondents across ten major cities in Indonesia and analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method with SmartPLS v4 software.

The findings revealed that information quality, system quality, service quality, and regulatory expectations have a positive and significant effect on the intention to use Insurtech. However, perceived trust was found to have no significant effect on usage intention and did not function as a mediating variable. The research model demonstrated high validity and reliability, explaining 57 percent of the variation in Insurtech usage intention and 69 percent of the variation in perceived trust.

Fankar, who serves as Chief Executive Officer of PT Asuransi Kredit Indonesia, also expressed concern regarding environmental issues in Indonesia. “The level of pollution in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta, is very severe. Fuel-powered vehicles contribute significantly to pollution; therefore, electric vehicles can serve as one of the solutions,” he said.

Fankar graduated with a Cum Laude distinction, achieving a perfect Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.00. He has also published research in a Scopus-indexed international journal within his field of expertise. As the 18th doctoral graduate of Untar’s Doctoral Program in Management Science, his achievement further strengthens Untar’s position as a higher education institution committed to producing academics and researchers with integrity.
