Arviga Bigwanto successfully earned his Doctoral degree after defending his dissertation titled “Lean Construction Model in Design and Build Projects” during the Open Doctoral Examination in Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Tarumanagara University (Untar). The examination took place on Monday, January 13, 2025, in the Auditorium of Untar Campus I, presided over by the Rector of Untar, Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M.
The examination committee consisted of Ir. Harto Tanujaya, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.; Prof. Dr. Ir. Naniek Widayati, M.T., as the Main Promoter; and Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D., as the Co-Promoter.
Arviga’s research was motivated by the extensive infrastructure development undertaken by the Indonesian government to promote equitable growth, with a budget allocation reaching 10% of the total state budget (APBN). Such a significant budget requires professional management to achieve optimal performance in terms of cost, quality, time, occupational safety (K3), and environmental aspects.
One of the main challenges often encountered is waste, caused by unanticipated design changes. In his research, Arviga stated that implementing the Lean Construction method could minimize waste, thereby enabling more effective and efficient budget utilization.
Arviga hopes his research will provide new insights into the application of Lean Construction in design and build projects funded by both the state and regional budgets (APBN and APBD). He also emphasized that his findings could benefit project managers, academics, and other stakeholders in the construction industry.
At the end of the session, Arviga was declared the 87th Doctor in Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Untar, with honors. In his closing remarks, he expressed gratitude to everyone who supported his academic journey.
“I hope this dissertation serves as a tangible contribution to the advancement of the construction industry in Indonesia and delivers lasting benefits for the nation,” he stated.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Naniek Widayati, as the Main Promoter, also shared a message for Arviga, encouraging him to uphold his responsibilities and continue bringing honor to his alma mater. “I hope Mr. Arviga will achieve even greater success in the future and contribute more significantly to the nation,” she stated.
Currently, Arviga Bigwanto serves as Senior Vice President (SVP) in the Division Operation 1 of PT Brantas Abipraya, a state-owned enterprise (BUMN). His dissertation is highly relevant to the projects currently being undertaken by the company.
The President Director of PT Brantas Abipraya, Sugeng Rochadi, also attended the event and expressed his appreciation for Arviga’s achievement. “Congratulations to Mr. Arviga and his family. This research is expected to be a milestone for change in Indonesia’s construction industry, driving innovation and preparing the company to face future challenges,” said Sugeng.
