Untar officially launched the Master’s Program in Communication Studies. The inauguration was marked by an event held at the Auditorium of Untar Campus I on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Untar’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., stated that the establishment of this program is a strategic step to address the rapidly growing needs in the field of communication. “The establishment of the Master’s Program in Communication Studies will also strengthen Untar’s reputation as one of the best private universities in Indonesia,” he said. The establishment of this program is based on the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 609/E/0/2024 regarding the Authorization for the Opening of the Master’s Program in Communication Studies at Tarumanagara University.

The Rector hopes that the Master’s Program, which will begin its teaching process early next year, can be well-managed, allowing it to develop sustainably and make a significant contribution to the field of communication studies. The Chairman of the Tarumanagara Foundation Board, Prof. Dr. Ariawan Gunadi, S.H., M.H., who was also present at the event, emphasized the importance of innovation in communication studies to address the needs of the younger generation, especially Generation Z, in areas like digital communication. “We must be adaptive to the times. The establishment of the Master’s Program in Communication Studies at Fikom Untar is an achievement that deserves appreciation,” he said.
Ariawan also added that communication studies remain relevant worldwide. “From my observations while visiting various prestigious campuses abroad, communication studies are still in high demand. It is important to combine communication studies with other disciplines to meet the ever-evolving needs of society,” he remarked.
The inauguration event also featured a presentation by the Expert Staff of the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Dr. Riant Nugroho, M.Si., CBA, who delivered a lecture titled “Communication Studies Today: From Clarity and Certainty to the Crossroads of Uncertainty.” His presentation highlighted the evolution of communication from analog to digital media, which has transformed how people understand and influence public opinion.

The Dean of Fikom Untar, Dr. Riris Loisa, M.Si., stated that the Master’s Program in Communication Studies at Untar is conducted with an emphasis on the values of Humanism, Entrepreneurialism, Professionalism, and Integrity (HEPI). With these values, graduates will be able to innovate in facing the increasingly complex challenges in the world of communication, especially with the rise of digital communication. (YS/VC)
