The Tarumanagara Accounting Student Association (IMAKTA) held a seminar themed “Digital Tax for the Future: The Role of Core Tax Administration System in Modernizing Tax Administration” on Tuesday (19/11/2024) at Untar’s Campus II. The seminar was part of the National Tax Seminar and Competition (NTSC) 2024 event.
The seminar, which was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Untar, Prof. Dr. Sawidji Widoatmodjo, S.E., M.M., M.B.A., featured several speakers, including the Head of the Cooperation and Public Relations Section of the West Jakarta Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) Office, Sri Widyanti, S.S.T., Ak., M.Ak. as the main speaker. The event also included Dra. Purnamawati Helen Widjaja, Ak., CA., S.H., M.si., M.H., BKP. from Untar as the moderator, Andi Dendya Septria Larani, A.Md.Pjk. from DJP West Jakarta, and Christine Tjen, S.E., Ak., M.Int.Tax., CA, CACP, QRGP, a lecturer at the University of Indonesia’s Department of Accounting.
The Core Tax Administration System (CTAS) is a DJP service administration system used to simplify the process of managing tax administration online, in a centralized and integrated manner. CTAS is part of the government’s efforts to modernize the tax system and support the digital era.
During her presentation, Sri Widyanti discussed the tax reforms initiated by DJP since 1983. These reforms aim to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, taxpayer compliance, service quality, and data analysis capabilities. Christine Tjen mentioned several challenges regarding taxpayer readiness in adopting CTAS, such as the level of digital literacy among taxpayers, current taxation system experience, infrastructure readiness, government education and socialization, taxpayer compliance and awareness, as well as support from tax consultants and professionals.
To address these challenges, education and understanding of CTAS have been undertaken by the authorities, including intensive socialization and communication between DJP and taxpayers, collaboration with the private sector, tax professionals, and academia, providing easy-to-understand guides and educational materials, and facilitating on-site assistance and feedback.
NTSC aims to raise awareness about the importance of taxation and provide a platform for healthy competition in the field of taxation. According to the Chairperson of NTSC 2024, Kheisya Chesly, in the digital era, modernizing the tax system is crucial for improving efficiency, transparency, and convenience for the public in fulfilling their tax obligations.
In addition to the seminar, the event featured a bazaar to create an interactive atmosphere and foster collaboration with various business actors. Dean of FEB Untar Prof. Dr. Sawidji Widoatmodjo expressed hope that the NTSC event would continue to grow and bring new innovations, providing insights and opportunities for students to excel.
