Vidi Sunjata earned his Doctorate degree after successfully defending his dissertation titled “Prefabrication System Management Model for Improving Productivity of Multi-Story Building Construction” in the Open Doctoral Examination of Civil Engineering at Untar Campus I, on Monday (28/10/2024).
This research is motivated by the frequent delays and low productivity in construction, which can lead to cost overruns of up to 60%. Previous research on the role of prefabrication in the supply chain is considered to improve construction timeliness. However, in his research, Vidi revealed an anomaly where more than 50% of projects still experience delays.
Vidi recommended the implementation of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), adopted from the manufacturing industry, in the prefabrication process. This method is considered capable of reducing costs, time, and various other issues. DFMA is also considered capable of automating the production system and reducing the amount of waste generated.
“Hopefully, this dissertation can open the minds of the government, so that through Tarumanagara University, Indonesia can become better, at least on par with developed countries,” said Prof. Dr. Manlian Ronald A Simanjuntak, S.T., M.T., D.Min, IPU, ASEAN Eng., as the main promoter. (VH/YS/KJ)
