Millennials are projected to be Indonesia’s golden generation in 2045, dominating around 60% of the total population. At that time, the younger generation has an important role in supporting national development.

One of the main contributions is through tax, which is a source of state revenue and implementation of Pancasila values, such as mutual cooperation and social justice.

This was conveyed by the Head of Cooperation and Public Relations of the West Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) Sri Widyanti as a guest speaker in a tax inclusion webinar themed “Building a Gen Z Tax Aware Culture”, Tuesday (24/9/2024) online via Zoom.

This activity is a routine event organized by the Untar Learning Institute every semester. This webinar is part of the learning outcomes of graduates of the Humanities course, which includes Pancasila, Citizenship, Religion, and Indonesian Language.

In her remarks, the Head of Untar Learning Institute Dr. Ir. Henny Wiyanto, M.T., I.P.M. said that this course uses an outcome-based education approach with a project-based learning strategy.

“Students are expected to produce outcomes such as scientific articles, posters, videos, and activity reports that are not only beneficial for themselves, but also for improving the performance of study programs and universities,” she said.

Henny added that these works will later be competed in the Humanities Festival scheduled for November 2024.

This webinar also presented Untar Rector Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M. and Untar Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Rasji, S.H., M.H. as speakers who expressed their views on the importance of tax awareness among students.

The Rector of Untar highlighted the importance of tax awareness as one of the main pillars in national development. According to him, the younger generation, especially students, need to understand how much tax contributes to the nation’s progress.

Untar through this activity seeks to educate its students to become citizens who are not only aware of their obligations, but also understand the role of taxes in building the national economy and infrastructure.

“Tax is the biggest support in national development. Through programs like this, it is hoped that students, as part of Generation Z, can understand the strategic role of taxes in national development, as well as support tax inclusion as part of state defense,” he said.

This activity was attended by more than 900 participants consisting of leaders, lecturers in charge of Humanities courses, and Untar students. (KJ/YS/KJ)
