Untar Graduate Psychologist Ready to Help People in Need

Faculty of Psychology (FPsi) Untar held the 36th batch of Psychologist Inauguration of Professional Psychology Master Study Program (Prodi) in the Auditorium of Campus I Untar, Tuesday (4/6).

The inauguration this time inaugurated 15 new psychologists consisting of 10 graduates of the Clinical Psychology study field and five graduates of the Industrial and Organizational Psychology study field.

“All new psychologists are ready to practice and contribute to the future, helping people in need,” said Dean of FPsi Untar Sri Tiatri, Ph.D., Psychologist.

In his speech, the Rector of Untar Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., ASEAN Eng. urged the graduates to continue applying the values of integrity, professionalism, and entrepreneurship to the wider community.

He hoped that the graduates can meet the needs and provide a sense of security and comfort to patients.

One of the graduates, Ida Ayu Kencana Jalatri Samgara Putri from Bali, said her thesis entitled “The Effectiveness of Art Therapy on Controlling Negative Behavior of Schizophrenia Patients in Bali Province” was dedicated to her homeland.

“I want to promote Balinese culture in helping recover people with schizophrenia,” said the woman who is familiarly called Caca.

Schizophrenia itself is a mental disorder that affects a person’s ability to think, feel and behave properly. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 20 million people worldwide are estimated to suffer from schizophrenia.

Furthermore, she also expressed her desire to help the development of psychology related to culture.

Zamia Safira, representing all graduates, expressed her appreciation to all lecturers and staff who have helped and guided her during her professional psychology education.

“Learning at Untar is not only theoretical, but also real-world practice, so it helps prepare us to enter the professional world,” she said.

The alumni of Untar’s Bachelor of Psychology also advised all students to be active academically and non-academically.

During the inauguration ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed with Kasih Anugerah Orphanage.

The MoU is expected to strengthen Untar’s involvement to the community in need, especially in the field of psychology. (CS/AW/KJ)
