Delegates of Untar attended the “Temu Ambassador Malaysia 2024” event organized by the Embassy of Malaysia, Tuesday (28/5) at the Multipurpose Board, Embassy of Malaysia Jakarta (KBMJ).
This event was an interaction session between the Malaysian Ambassador and students from various universities in Indonesia with the topic “Bilateral Relations between Malaysia and the Republic of Indonesia”.
Malaysian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia TYT Dato’ Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku highlighted the strong economic relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia.
Based on data presented by KBMJ, Indonesia is the seventh largest trading partner for Malaysia, with transaction value reaching USD 24.39 billion. Meanwhile, Malaysia is the fifth largest trading partner for Indonesia, with a transaction value of USD 4.1 billion.
The Malaysian ambassador also highlighted the importance of cooperation in education between the two countries.
“Cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia in the field of education has been going on since Malaysia just gained its independence and still continues to this day,” he said.
Furthermore, the Malaysian Ambassador revealed that there are many similarities between Indonesia and Malaysia. He believes that these similarities are an advantage and can be utilized to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
“If both countries can collaborate well, this can support the achievement of the 17 SDGs goals,” he concluded.
Daniel Putra Jaya, one of the Untar students who attended, revealed that this event provided a deep insight into the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia.
“Knowing the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia since long ago, especially in the fields of economy, culture, and education, really opened my eyes about the importance of cooperation between the two countries,” said the Communication Science student.
On that occasion, a dinner with Malaysian specialties, such as roti canai, nasi lemak, and teh tarik, was served.
