A total of 100 dancers consisting of students, lecturers, and education staff of Untar enlivened the commemoration of Hari Sumpah Pemuda (Youth Pledge Day) by performing Saman Dance, Monday (30/10), in the courtyard of Untar Campus 1.
The dancers who mostly came from Padmanagara Psychology Student Activity Unit (UKMF) also presented Pelasraya dance from East Kalimantan, Kretek dance from Central Java, Piring dance from Minangkabau, and Kembang Kipas dance from Jakarta.
It was enlivened by a folk song performance by UKMF PsychoVoice which carries a moral message to raise awareness of Indonesia’s cultural wealth.
Themed “Together Advancing Indonesia,” the indoor ceremony was held without dampening the spirit of all ceremony participants. The traditional clothes symbolize the diversity in the Untar students’ background that come from various regions, who always uphold the spirit of Indonesian unity.
Putri Aurel Rizkia A., one of the students participating in the colossal dance, expressed her pride to be able to participate in enlivening this event.
“I am happy and proud to be one of the dancers in the Sumpah Pemuda event. This activity not only fosters a sense of nationalism, but also the value of solidarity and cooperation,” said the third semester student of the Faculty of Psychology Untar.
For her, Hari Sumpah Pemuda is an important symbol to uphold the spirit of nationalism in Indonesian youth.
Rector of Untar Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., A.E. attended as the ceremony inspector wearing traditional Betawi clothes. Rector invites students and all young people to have a fighting spirit and become virtuous people to increase their potential and qualifications, in order to realize Indonesia Emas 2045.
He also emphasized that students should get balanced learning, between academics and culture. By increasing students’ understanding of Indonesian culture, it is hoped that they can become future national leaders who do not forget their cultural roots.
The commemoration of Hari Sumpah Pemuda was also filled with community service activities in the form of health and eye examinations. This activity was carried out in collaboration with Kodim 0503/West Jakarta, Akademi Refraksi Optisi Gapopin, and the Indonesian Catholic Lecturers Association (IKDKI). (SC/YS/AW)
