Interior Design Student Research Seminar (SRIMDI) that was held by the Faculty of Arts and Design (FSRD) Untar, themed “Research in Interior Design to Increase User’s Comfort”, Thursday (22/6) online.
Architecture Professor of Universitas Indonesia Prof. Paramita Atmodiwirjo, Ph.D. attended as a speaker stated that interior design is not only about placement of things and places, but also behavior and interaction of human with the interior.
That made her conducted various researches, starting from placement of drying cabinet in the house, autistic children bedroom interior design research, to simulating air flow in a hospital’s waiting room.
According to her, every detail and possibility of interactions inside a designed room must be thoroughly thought and researched in order to increase the effectiveness of the interior and in accordance to its functions.
This seminar also discussed on the technical aspects of interior design to comfort. The discussion was led by lecturer of Interior Design FSRD Untar Anastasia Cinthya Gani, S.Ds., M.Ars.
She explained that interior and its respective design must be made in accordance to its purpose and function, not only its aesthetics. This includes material, ergonomics or comfort, lighting, acoustics, thermal, and others.
“In designing a room and interior with special requirements, it is important to acknowledge that multiple sensory are in work. A good design cannot only be assessed through one point of view, but also through the soul of its appearance can be felt in the environment,” Anastasia explained.
This year’s seminar is the third time and was participated with lecturers and students. (YI/YS/AW)
