Untar’s Chinese New Year Celebration participated by the whole academic community on Thursday (2/2), themed “Untar for Indonesia: Unity in Diversity for Mutual Prosperity.”
The message of Java, especially Solo, and Chinese acculturation, was well expressed in this Chinese New Year Celebration. Gambyong Surakarta Dance Performance conveys inclusiveness, unity in diversity.
Aside of that, a short documentary was played to strengthen the message of how Chinese and Javanese culture live side-by-side, living in harmony under one frame: Indonesia.
In this occasion, Architecture Professor of the Faculty of Engineering Untar Prof. Dr. Ir. Naniek Widayati Priyomarsono, M.T. explained on the influence of Chinese culture on architectural style of buildings in Solo. That could be seen from the style of old buildings in Solo, which reflect Chinese influence.
Rector of Untar Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., IPU., AE. said that Indonesia is a country that consists of different culture, which reflected at Untar. “As a part of Indonesia, we have to maintain inclusiveness at campus, in order to build a safe and comfortable environment,” said Rector.
In 2023, Untar obtained five stars from QS, which is the highest stars, for inclusiveness category. This is an evidence of Untar’s responsibility to the society.
Chairman of Tarumanagara Foundation Dr. Ariawan Gunadi, S.H., M.H. explained the philosophical meaning of the year of water rabbit.
“Rabbit is a symbol for a noble animal, which carries philosophical meaning for a kind animal. We could learn togetherness, unity, and friendship from it,” said Ariawan.
The Chinese New Year Celebration was attended by leaders of Tarumanagara Foundation, Untar academic community, tenants, and media, delivering Dragon Dance Performance, and the song of Sewu Kutho and Indonesia Pusaka performed in Mandarin.
The performances convey message to the society that the history and the greatness of this nation are inseparable of existing culture influences, including Chinese culture. This is the Indonesian culture, unity in diversity.(SA/YS/AW)
