Elements of language used in networking media must be based on basic principles of communication ethics, which are moderation, happiness or usage, universal, and empathy. This was stated by Dean of the Faculty of Communication Science (Fikom) Untar Dr. Riris Loisa, M.Si. as a speaker in the fifth Untar National Seminar Series (Serina), Wednesday (14/12) at Untar auditorium.

“For example, if we pronounce a word, we have to consider whether it could make someone positively or negatively impacted, and we have to make sure to stay on the moderate level. We have to consider if the word we chose gives out happiness or not,” she added.

Aside of Riris Loisa, Serina that was themed “Building Communication Ethics and Culture in the Digital Era Based on Indonesian Local Wisdom” also presented Managing Editor Video and Digital Distribution of Kompas.com Laksono Hari Wiwoho as a speaker, and Head of Bachelor of Communication Science Study Program Sinta Paramita, S.I.P., M.A. as the moderator.

On the same occasion, Laksono stated that communication ethics and culture in the digital era is important as everything in the digital media will leave digital trace.

“Our data security is important, even when we are not using a digital device, depends on who wants to use the data, be aware of data theft, as there are a lot of data thieves,” he said.

This year’s Serina was organized with the support of eight universities, which are UPN Veteran Jakarta, Universitas Atma Jaya, Universitas Pancasila, UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar, Universitas Tanjungpura, Universitas Trisakti, and Universitas Pancasakti Tegal. The seminar was participated by lecturers and students of various Indonesian universities.
