The contributions of Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) alumni were among the highlights of Untar’s 67th Anniversary celebration at Campus I, Jakarta, on Tuesday (27/10/2026). Their achievements demonstrate that the role of a university extends beyond classroom education, continuing through work that addresses the needs of industry and society.
Untar celebrates its anniversary every October 1. This year’s celebration carried the theme “Move Beyond: From Teaching & Research to Transformational Impact.” The event featured an Open Senate Meeting attended by professors and served as an occasion to present the IPE Impact Awards to students, lecturers, alumni, and industry partners recognized for their contributions in their respective fields.
One of the award recipients was Wani Sabu, an alumna of Untar’s Master of Management program. She is known for her role in developing Halo BCA and currently serves as Chair of the Cyber Security Committee of the Indonesian National Banks Association (Perbanas).
Wani believes that Untar continues to produce graduates who can make meaningful contributions to society. She noted that a university’s commitment to creating a supportive learning environment needs to go hand in hand with graduates’ readiness to adapt to changing workforce demands.
“It is important for graduates to align their competencies with industry needs so they can respond to the challenges of the working world,” she said.
Alumni contributions through business are also reflected in the work of Robert Wanasida, a graduate of Untar’s Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD), who serves as CCMO of Kopi Nako and CEO of Daur Baur Micro Factory. Through sustainability-based businesses, he develops ways to repurpose plastic waste, including used cups, into functional design products.
For him, entrepreneurship is measured not only by business success but also by the benefits it brings to the environment and society. This perspective aligns with Entrepreneurship, one of Untar’s core values.
“Innovations that create impact and benefit society are one way to put Untar’s IPE values into practice,” he said.
Untar Rector Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., emphasized the importance of universities continuing to adapt to changing times. As Untar enters its 67th year, the university is expected not only to produce competent graduates but also to develop education and research that benefit society.
“Universities never retire,” he said. The Rector added that continuous improvement must be guided by the values of Integrity, Professionalism, and Entrepreneurship (IPE), and supported by collaboration with various stakeholders.
Similarly, Head of the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region III Dr. Henri Togar Hasiholan Tambunan, S.E., M.A., emphasized in his address that higher education transformation does not always have to begin with large-scale programs.
According to the Head of LLDIKTI Region III, change can be achieved through improvements in teaching methods, the selection of research topics relevant to societal issues, and partnerships with various stakeholders. In this way, the outcomes of education and research can go beyond academic achievements and be applied more widely.
In recognition of these contributions, the IPE Impact Awards were presented in four categories: the Student Impact Award for students, the Research & Knowledge Impact Award for lecturers, the Young & Impactful Alumni Awards for alumni, and the Future Impact Awards for stakeholders and industry partners.
Chair of the Tarumanagara Foundation Board Prof. Dr. Ariawan Gunadi, S.H., M.H., also reaffirmed the Foundation’s support for Untar in continuing to produce work that benefits society, the nation, and the country.
The Open Senate Meeting was also attended by Chair of the Tarumanagara Foundation Supervisory Board Drs. Indra Gunawan Masman, M.B.A., along with other members of the Tarumanagara Foundation.
Through the contributions of students, lecturers, alumni, and industry partners, Untar strives to create a higher education environment that not only generates knowledge but also provides solutions to society’s needs. The achievements of its alumni across various fields demonstrate how knowledge gained during their studies at Untar can be put into practice. (VC/YS)
