Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), together with the Indonesian Association of Planning Schools (ASPI), discussed urban and regional planning (PWK) education in Indonesia and South Korea through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) at Untar Campus I on Monday (24/8/2026).

The FGD, themed “Comparative Study on Urban Planning Education in South Korea and Indonesia,” involved Seoul National University (SNU) and several higher education institutions across Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek). The event was held both onsite and online.

The discussion covered the roles and competencies of planners, characteristics of planning education in higher education institutions, educational standards and university autonomy, as well as the implementation of curricula and planning studios in Indonesia and South Korea.

Participants also discussed innovations in the educational process, the influence of standards and institutional frameworks on educational delivery, and developments in accreditation systems in both countries.

Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning (FAPRE) Untar Maria Veronica Gandha, S.T., M.Arch., said the forum provided an opportunity for higher education institutions to broaden their understanding of planning education while strengthening academic relations between Indonesia and South Korea.

“We hope this meeting can encourage productive discussions and open opportunities for further collaboration between higher education institutions in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta and Jabodetabek, and universities in South Korea,” she said.

The meeting also provided a platform for exchanging information on the delivery of planning education in both countries, including opportunities to develop collaboration in education and planning research. (CS/YS)
