The Civil Engineering Doctoral Program of Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) has once again produced a new doctoral graduate. Dr. Enriko Tosulpa was officially conferred as the 104th Doctor of Civil Engineering at Untar during an open session held on Friday (09/01/2026) at the Auditorium of Campus I Untar.

The doctoral degree was awarded after Dr. Enriko successfully defended his dissertation titled “Handling Model for the Impact of Road Damage Caused by Overloading.” The research was motivated by the issue of road damage influenced by excessive vehicle loads, particularly in Lampung Province.

In his dissertation, it was explained that Lampung Province, as the gateway connecting Java Island to Sumatra Island, accommodates a higher volume of heavy-load traffic compared to other provinces in Sumatra. The limited budget for managing the extensive road network across Lampung Province has also contributed to restricted road preservation efforts and increasing levels of road damage.

Based on these conditions, Dr. Enriko focused his research on identifying additional variables that could be used as road damage parameters beyond those currently applied by Bina Marga.

Dr. Enriko, who also serves as a lecturer in the Civil Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sang Bumi Ruwa Jurai, Bandar Lampung, incorporated factors affecting road damage in Lampung Province into his study. These factors included negligence in planning, implementation, and supervision, inadequate road maintenance, as well as the presence of ODOL (Over Dimension Over Load) vehicles traveling on road sections.

The road damage parameters used in the research consisted of the International Roughness Index (IRI), Pavement Condition Index (PCI), Remaining Service Life (RSL), drainage effectiveness, Average Daily Traffic (LHR) of vehicles, and the Vehicle Damage Factor (VDF).

During the same event, the Rector of Universitas Sang Bumi Ruwa Jurai, Bandar Lampung, attended and extended congratulations to Dr. Enriko on his achievement. The Rector also stated that the attainment of this degree further increased the number of doctoral-level lecturers at Universitas Sang Bumi Ruwa Jurai.

The open session was chaired by Untar Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation, Assoc. Prof. Sri Tiatri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Psikolog, with Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Untar, Ir. Harto Tanujaya, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., serving as Chief Examiner. (VC/YS)
