Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) held a national seminar on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and prevent psychosocial risks, particularly in the workplace.

The seminar, titled “From Reactive to Intelligent Prevention: AI-Powered Workforce Readiness, Psychosocial Risk & Preventive Mental Health,” took place at Building M, Untar Campus I, Jakarta, on Saturday (10/10/2026).

Held in commemoration of World Mental Health Day 2026, the event highlighted the importance of shifting mental health care from responding to problems after they arise to early prevention supported by technology.

The seminar also emphasized the role of professionals in ensuring that AI is used in a way that prioritizes human well-being.

Untar Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Sri Tiatri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Psikolog, stressed that efforts to maintain mental health should not begin only when someone experiences a crisis. Prevention must be a priority, while professional psychologists must continue to play a central role in assessing and addressing psychosocial risks.

“There can be no sustainable productivity without healthy people. We must shift from waiting to taking action, and from addressing problems that have already occurred to anticipating and preventing them,” she said.

Meanwhile, DexWellness founder David Wongso, M.M., M.B.A., Psikolog, highlighted the importance of work-life balance in maintaining employees’ mental health.

According to David, these efforts cannot rely solely on counseling services but must also be supported by company policies, including work schedules that take employee well-being into account.

David noted that AI has the potential to support the identification and prevention of psychosocial risks. However, the technology should assist human judgment rather than replace the role of professionals.

“Human beings are not commodities. In the workplace, people must continue to be treated as human beings. Do not make artificial intelligence the sole point of reference. Instead, create working conditions that enable people to remain healthy, productive, and able to grow with the support of AI,” he said.

The seminar also featured academics, practitioners, and stakeholders from various institutions, including the Indonesian Psychological Association (HIMPSI), the Association of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (APIO), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), BPJS Kesehatan, Zurich Insurance Indonesia, and Thiess Indonesia.

Through this seminar, Untar encouraged collaboration among higher education institutions, professional organizations, and industry to develop preventive mental health approaches that combine technological advancements with a human-centered perspective. (CJ/YS)
