New students of the Faculty of Art and Design at Universitas Tarumanagara (FSRD Untar) explored the identity and culture of the Indonesian archipelago through art at Creative Day 2026, held at Untar Campus I on Friday (21/8/2026). The event was part of the continuation of the Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru (PKKMB) and the celebration of FSRD Untar’s 32nd anniversary.

Under the theme “Arsantara: The Art of Our Identity,” Creative Day encouraged students to translate Indonesia’s cultural diversity into personal, creative, and contemporary works.

The name Arsantara combines the words art and Nusantara. Through the theme, art was positioned as a medium for students to explore and express their identity through creative works.

During the event, new students created Nusantara-inspired costumes using recycled materials. The works were then presented in groups through a fashion show. In addition to fostering creativity, the use of recycled materials introduced students to the reuse of materials as part of the creative process.

FSRD Untar faculty members and education staff also joined the event by wearing costumes representing various Indonesian cultural identities, including traditional attire and wayang characters. They also performed a short drama depicting chapters of Indonesian history.

Dean of FSRD Untar Dr. Maitri Widya Mutiara, S.Ds., M.M., said Creative Day provides a space for new students to begin developing their creativity while building shared experiences throughout their university life.

“Through this activity, I hope students will continue to develop their talents and creativity through the various academic programs available, while building experiences with their peers through organizations and the works they will create at FSRD,” she said.

Creative Day was also part of the celebration of FSRD Untar’s 32nd anniversary, which fell on August 19, 2026. Through the event, new students were introduced to a creative process that combines cultural identity exploration, material reuse, and practices in art and design. (CJ/YS)
