With a background in Interior Design from Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), Robert Wanasida has built his career from design and the creative industry to becoming a creative entrepreneur in the food and beverage (F&B) sector.
A 1997 alumnus of the Interior Design Study Program at the Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD), Robert currently serves as Chief Creative and Marketing Officer (CCMO) at Karma Group, an operator overseeing several brands, including Kopi Nako. His experience has helped him develop innovations that combine creativity and sustainability in business.
One such initiative is Daur Bauru Micro Factory, established in July 2024. The facility processes plastic waste generated by outlet operations into new materials that can be reused for various business needs, including interior design elements.
For Robert, this initiative is part of the responsibility that comes with running a business. He believes business growth should be accompanied by awareness of its impact, including operational waste.
“When we choose to run a business, we must also take responsibility for what it produces. It is not just about selling products, but also about managing their impact,” he explained.

These efforts go beyond waste processing. Robert also brings the message of sustainability closer to consumers through rinser machines at several outlets, merchandise, and creative collaborations with various partners. This approach aims to make sustainability part of everyday lifestyles and easier to practice in daily life.
Drawing on his professional experience, Robert also encourages Untar students and alumni to continue developing the knowledge they gained during their studies and never stop learning after entering the industry.
“Whatever our background, once we have gained experience, we should never stop learning from the industry we work in. Stay creative, think more broadly, innovate, build more connections, and apply what we have learned,” he said.
Robert’s journey demonstrates how the knowledge gained at FSRD Untar can serve as a foundation for continued professional growth. Design knowledge, experience, and relationships developed during his studies have become part of his journey in bringing together creativity, business, and sustainability. (CS/PA)
