A work culture that supports the implementation of lean management plays a crucial role in enhancing innovation and the performance of manufacturing companies. The implementation of management practices focused on efficiency has proven to be more effective when accompanied by an organizational culture that encourages all employees to consistently apply lean principles.

This was presented by Dr. Lithrone Laricha Salomon through his dissertation, which he defended during the open dissertation examination of the Doctor of Management Study Program at Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) on Friday (26/6/2026).

The dissertation, titled “Pengaruh Lean Management Practice dan Innovation Performance terhadap Peningkatan Kinerja Perusahaan Manufaktur Makanan di Jakarta” (“The Influence of Lean Management Practice and Innovation Performance on Improving the Performance of Food Manufacturing Companies in Jakarta”), also examined the role of lean culture in strengthening the implementation of lean management within companies.

According to Lithrone, the implementation of Lean Management Practice, supported by a strong lean culture and an organization’s ability to absorb and manage knowledge, can drive greater innovation while improving the company’s operational performance.

“The dissemination of lean culture among employees can help management implement Lean Management Practice more effectively and efficiently, enabling the objectives of lean manufacturing to be achieved and ultimately improving corporate performance,” he said.

The study found that Lean Management Practice has a positive effect on absorptive capacity, innovation performance, and firm performance. The research also demonstrated that absorptive capacity enhances a company’s ability to generate innovation while improving overall performance. Furthermore, lean culture was found to strengthen the relationship between the implementation of Lean Management Practice and improved corporate performance.

According to Lithrone, these findings indicate that improving industrial competitiveness cannot rely solely on the adoption of efficient work methods. The successful implementation of lean management also depends on an organizational culture that supports change, as well as the company’s ability to manage and utilize knowledge as the foundation for innovation.

The study is expected to serve as a reference for manufacturing companies in designing productivity improvement strategies that focus not only on efficiency but also on strengthening organizational culture and fostering sustainable innovation.

Lithrone graduated with cum laude honors and was conferred as the 29th doctoral graduate of Untar’s Doctor of Management Study Program. The dissertation examination was chaired by Untar Rector Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., with Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., IPU., A.E. serving as the principal promoter and Dr. Eko Suhartanto, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. as the co-promoter. (VC/YS)
