Jakarta celebrated its 499th anniversary on June 22, 2026. As the metropolitan city approaches its fifth century, it continues to demonstrate progress across various sectors and remains home to millions of people from diverse backgrounds.
As a city that has shaped the journey of many educational institutions, Jakarta has also played an important role in the development of Untar. Established in Jakarta in 1959, Untar has grown alongside the city as one of Indonesia’s private universities contributing to human resource development. On the occasion of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary, Untar, through its Rector, Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., extended his congratulations and appreciation for the city’s many achievements.
“May Jakarta continue to be a progressive and globally competitive city while remaining humane and inclusive for all its residents,” he stated.
According to him, Jakarta has become a city that provides opportunities for people to learn, create, and grow. Furthermore, Jakarta serves as an urban and educational hub that offers young people from various regions the opportunity to pursue higher education and develop their potential.
Meanwhile, one of Untar’s students who was born and raised in Jakarta, Lynellia Aurilia, expressed her pride in the city where she grew up.
“I was born and raised in Jakarta, a city full of opportunities, diversity, and dynamism. I have gained many valuable experiences here, and I hope Jakarta continues to develop into an even better city for future generations,” said the 2024 cohort student of the Faculty of Engineering.
The celebration of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary serves as a moment to reflect on the city’s long journey while reinforcing optimism for a future that is more advanced, sustainable, and globally competitive. As part of Jakarta’s community, Untar remains committed to contributing through education, research, and community service to support the development of an increasingly high-quality city.
