Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) has established a Disability Services Unit (Unit Layanan Disabilitas/ULD) as part of its commitment to improving support for students with disabilities and fostering a more inclusive campus environment. The establishment of the unit was marked by the presentation of an official appointment decree to the Acting Head of Untar’s Disability Services Unit, Dr. Meiske Yunithree Suparman, M.Psi., Psikolog, during the University Leadership Coordination Meeting at Untar Campus I, Jakarta, on Monday (15/6/2026).
Untar Rector Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M. stated that the establishment of the Disability Services Unit is a follow-up to the government’s policy encouraging higher education institutions to provide more inclusive services for students with disabilities.
“With the establishment of this unit, students with disabilities are expected to receive better support, both in the learning process and in other student services,” he said.
According to Prof. Amad, the Disability Services Unit reflects Untar’s commitment to ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to access higher education.
The establishment of the unit was driven by the need to provide specialized academic and non-academic support for students with disabilities. In addition to facilitating their adaptation to campus life, the unit is expected to help students develop their potential and achieve academic and personal success.
Untar’s Disability Services Unit will carry out a range of functions, including assessing students’ needs, providing appropriate academic support services, offering counseling and mentoring, conducting advocacy and training, as well as monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of its services.
The unit is also expected to assist the University in complying with regulations related to inclusive education while preventing service barriers and discriminatory practices affecting students with disabilities.
Through the establishment of the Disability Services Unit, Untar reinforces its commitment to promoting inclusive and equitable access to higher education for all students, including those with disabilities.
The initiative also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education (inclusive and equitable education), SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. (DP/YS)
