The role of accountants in the business world continues to evolve alongside changing industry demands. Beyond preparing and analyzing financial statements, accountants are increasingly involved in corporate decision-making processes.

This issue was among the key topics discussed at the Accounting Festival (AF) 2026 seminar, themed “Preparing Future Accountants for a Dynamic Business Environment,” organized by the Tarumanagara Accounting Student Association (IMAKTA) of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), on Tuesday (26/05/2026) at the Auditorium of Untar Campus II.

The seminar featured professionals from the accounting and finance sectors, including Founder & CEO of MRB Finance Mario W. Buana, CPA (AUST.), CA., KHP Indonesia; PwC Indonesia Partner Steven Tanggara; and KAP Purwantono, Sungkoro & Surja Partner Yuki, CPA. The event was moderated by FEB Untar lecturer and Partner of KAP DHK & Rekan, Augustpaosa Nariman, S.E., M.Ak., Ak., CA., ASEAN CPA., CPA.

AF 2026 Chairperson Aurelia Natasya stated that the theme focused on accountants’ ability to understand a company’s financial condition and its connection to business decision-making.

“Through this theme, we want to demonstrate that accountants play a role in transforming financial insights into strategic, professional, and ethical business decisions,” she said.

In addition to the seminar, AF 2026 hosted the Accounting Competition, which comprised several stages. The competition began with an online preliminary round, followed by a semifinal round in which participants prepared papers based on case studies provided by MRB Finance.

During the final round, participants took part in a series of interactive challenges, including the Accounting Escape Challenge, Accounting Quiz, and Accounting Auction.

Through these activities, IMAKTA stated that AF 2026 was designed as a platform for students to develop their academic competencies in accounting and business. (CS/YS)
