The issue of the global energy crisis has once again drawn attention as energy demand continues to rise across various sectors. The situation is reflected in increasing fuel prices, electricity tariff adjustments, and the rising cost of living. In Indonesia, energy consumption has continued to grow year after year.

The condition has been worsened by several global factors, including geopolitical instability, disruptions in energy supply chains across multiple regions, limited energy resources, and soaring global energy commodity prices. The impact is being felt widely, as energy remains an essential resource that supports everyday activities and basic needs.

Amid these circumstances, university students are considered to have an important role in adopting and promoting energy-saving lifestyles. Beyond being directly affected by the crisis, students also hold the potential to become agents of change through their daily habits and influence within their surrounding communities.

Energy conservation efforts can begin with simple actions in campus environments or at home. These include turning off lights and electronic devices after use, reducing air conditioner usage, and maximizing natural lighting during daytime activities. Although simple, such habits can significantly reduce energy consumption when practiced consistently.

Students can also reduce the use of private vehicles by switching to public transportation or walking for shorter distances. In addition to saving energy, these measures can help lower daily expenses.

Equally important, students’ use of social media can serve as an effective platform to raise public awareness about the importance of energy conservation. Creative and informative digital campaigns are considered capable of reaching broader audiences, particularly younger generations.

Therefore, energy conservation is not only a solution to today’s energy limitations, but also a relevant lifestyle choice for students. Through simple yet consistent actions, students can contribute to building a more sustainable energy future. (Article compiled from various sources) (KS/YS)
