The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD), Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), organized a community service program through a mangrove planting activity at the Angke Kapuk Mangrove Nature Tourism Park, Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/07/2025). The initiative reflects the students’ commitment to environmental conservation and the sustainability of coastal ecosystems.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of FSRD Untar, Dr. Kurnia Setiawan, S.Sn., M.Hum. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of fostering ecological awareness among the younger generation, particularly art and design students, as agents of change capable of raising environmental issues through creative approaches.

During the program, FSRD Untar students actively planted mangrove seedlings in a designated conservation area. Beyond their ecological functions as natural barriers against coastal erosion and as habitats for marine life, mangroves also symbolize the students’ commitment to environmental preservation. The activity reinforced the values of mutual cooperation, social responsibility, and collective commitment to building a sustainable future.

The initiative aligns with the principles and objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). By engaging students in hands-on field activities, BEM FSRD Untar also promotes contextual learning that integrates social, environmental, and educational dimensions.
