Ferdyanto Gunawan, a student of the Management Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Untar, achieved a notable accomplishment in the National Essay Competition organized by Jakarta State University (UNJ). The nationwide competition concluded with the announcement of winners on 14 July 2025.
For the competition, Ferdyanto submitted an essay titled “When Students Are No Longer Educated: AI and the Decline of the Learning Process in Indonesia.” The essay examined the shifting learning habits of Indonesian students as a result of increasing dependence on artificial intelligence (AI). The topic was considered highly relevant to current educational challenges and successfully captured the attention of the judging panel.
“This achievement in a national essay competition shows that the issue I raised is indeed relevant and worthy of attention. It also serves as a reminder that educational challenges must continue to be discussed critically, especially in the digital era,” said the Management student from the Class of 2023.
His preparation process began with observing the learning habits of today’s younger generation, followed by extensive research using data and academic literature. One of the main challenges in writing the essay was maintaining strong and objective arguments without becoming overly emotional in the narrative. To address this, he repeatedly revised his work and sought feedback from lecturers and discussion partners.
As a student who has participated in several writing competitions, particularly in the fields of social issues and education, Ferdyanto entered the competition individually. He also expressed appreciation for the indirect support provided by the Management Study Program at FEB Untar, including access to learning resources and discussion spaces that encouraged the development of his interest in writing.
Through this achievement, Ferdyanto encourages fellow students to actively express their ideas through writing and to participate in various competitions as a means of self-development. He emphasized that competitions are not merely about winning titles, but also about developing critical thinking and strengthening the ability to communicate ideas in a structured and effective manner.
