The Training and Education Center of Tarumanagara University (Pusdiklat Untar) held an online seminar titled “Food and Glowing” via Zoom on Wednesday (19/03/2025). The event was opened by the Rector of Untar, Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., and attended by Dr. dr. Arlends Chris, M.Si., Head of Pusdiklat Untar. The seminar was moderated by Untung Subroto, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psikolog, Training Manager at Pusdiklat Untar.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Amad expressed his hope that the seminar would run effectively and provide participants with better insights into the food they consume daily.
The keynote speaker, Nadia Ariniputri, BFoodSciTech, PGDipSci., a Senior Food Technologist from Auckland, New Zealand, explained the importance of healthy food for body energy and skin health. She highlighted the concept of Food Coma (Postprandial Somnolence)—the feeling of fatigue after consuming foods high in saturated fat or with a high glycemic index (GI). This occurs due to the production of cytokine IL-1, which signals inflammation and makes the body want to rest.
Nadia recommended choosing foods with a low glycemic index (below 55), such as fruits, whole grains, tubers, high-protein foods, and healthy fats. Some of the tips she provided include:
- Consume low-GI foods for sustained energy.
- Avoid ultra-processed foods to preserve nutritional value.
- Consume vitamin B from vegetables and almonds.
- Eat avocados as a source of balanced energy.
- Engage in light activities after eating.
- Pay attention to portion sizes to optimize digestion.
Nadia emphasized that skin health is also influenced by the food we consume and digestive health. This seminar aimed to provide a better understanding of the importance of a healthy diet for both the body and the skin. (VC/AJ/YS/VA)
