Herman Cahyadi Earns Doctorate with Research on Strategies to Enhance Employee Engagement at Gojek Startup

Herman Cahyadi has officially earned his doctoral degree from the Doctoral Program in Management Science (DIM) at the Graduate School of Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) after successfully defending his dissertation in an open session on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. The session was chaired by the Rector of Untar, Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., and examined by a panel consisting of Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., IPU., A.E., as well as the main advisor, Prof. Dr. Haris Maupa, S.E., M.Si., and co-advisor, Dr. Sarwo Edy Handoyo, S.E., M.M., CIFM.

Herman’s dissertation, titled “The Influence of Entrepreneurial Orientation and Personality Traits on Work Engagement through Person-Environment Fit, Moderated by Job Satisfaction among Startup Employees at Gojek Indonesia,” was successfully defended in an open session held at the Auditorium of Untar Campus I. He earned a highly distinguished recognition for his research.

As the Head of People & Culture and Head of HR Operations at Gojek, Herman conducted research focusing on the company’s three main service pillars: mobility, food & retail, and logistics. His findings revealed that entrepreneurial orientation and employee personality traits significantly influence person-environment fit, which in turn impacts work engagement. However, the study found that job satisfaction does not moderate the relationship between person-environment fit and work engagement.

In his speech after the session, Herman, who became the 16th graduate of the Doctoral Program in Management Science at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Untar, expressed his gratitude. “Becoming a doctor at Untar may not have been my initial goal, but success comes through effort and consistency,” he stated.

The findings of this dissertation provide valuable insights for Gojek in creating a work environment that better aligns with employees’ characteristics, ultimately enhancing their work engagement. This, in turn, is expected to lead to an improvement in the quality of service experienced by Gojek’s customers. (VC/AJ/YS/VC)
