The best way for students to contribute to the nation as part of the Total Defense System (Sishanta) is by loving their homeland, having a sense of nationalism, applying the values of Pancasila, being willing to sacrifice, having basic defense skills, and excelling in their respective fields and professions. This was conveyed by PABAN III/TAHWIL STER TNI Colonel Inf Jacky Ariestanto, S.Sos., M.Sos., representing the Assistant for Territorial Affairs of the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, Major General TNI Novi Helmy Prasetya, S.I.P., M.I.P., during a public lecture on National Insight at the Auditorium of Untar’s Campus I on Wednesday (13/11/2024).
In his presentation titled “National Defense for the Millennial Generation in Maintaining National Unity,” he emphasized that national defense is both a right and an obligation of every citizen, as outlined in the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, Article 30, Clause (1), and Law No. 3 of 2002, Article 9, Clause (1). “Current issues, both globally, regionally, and nationally, have the potential to cause losses, tensions, and threats to national stability. Therefore, as Indonesian citizens, we are urged to defend the country from various threats that endanger the integrity of the nation,” he stressed.
Jacky Ariestanto hopes that in the future, students will respect their parents, work hard and be disciplined, be productive and innovative, seek knowledge, avoid negative influences, be willing to sacrifice for the nation, become agents of change, and always pray.
Major General TNI Novi Helmy Prasetya, S.I.P., M.I.P., who also provided an introduction, emphasized the importance of focusing on students’ primary duties—seeking knowledge, praying, avoiding bad influences, and taking pride in and loving their own nation.
The public lecture was opened by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. H. Rasji, S.H., M.H., who also served as the moderator for the event. He reminded students that in facing increasingly sophisticated global challenges, the millennial generation plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuity of national security, sovereignty, and the realization of national goals towards Indonesia’s Golden Age in 2045.
